Sony Digital8 - Help me display the data code

Apr 22, 2005 11:45PM PDT

I have a Sony TRV-145E digital8 camera

I desperately need to display the data code and record it all on to VHS for an assessment. The date and time were set when I first used the camera, but there is no function on this model to display it, as it has less buttons than the higher models, and it does not appear on the menu.

A friend says that they sometimes hide functions, eg by pushing combinations of buttons, to make the data code appear.

Is this true and does anyone know how to do this or where I could find out?

The alternative is to playback on a different digital 8 and hope that it the data code is recorded on the tape, but I can't get a digital 8 camera.

Why would they make a camera that can record the data code but not display it?

Please HELP!!!

remote commander

I think you need to have the remote control, or as they say in Japan "remote commander". Apparently there is a "data code" button on that, which switches among date, various displays, and no display. I have the same problem with a dcr-240 bought used with no remote. You can also try dropping the poorly designed consumer electronic product from increasingly greater heights onto a hard surface ...

A quick scan of the camcorder's manual

leads us to pages 5, 43, 51, 62, 63, 64, 65 and 122 (among many others) for the Remote Commander method - but the TRV-145E is not included in the list of camcorders that can use this method.

Pages 277 and 358 (and others) show the camcorder menu selection option - again, the TRV145E is not listed.

That this particular camcorder can display the data code during playback does not look very promising - and I cannot think of any specific reason Sony would be so explicit and show some with that capability and exclude others if the info could be displayed.

Perhaps there is a video conversion business near you that can provide the "transcoding" service?

Why make such a camcorder? Reduced feature set = less $.
