The Sony DCR-TRV50 is a standard definition, miniDV tape based camcorder that can get the video from the digital tape to the computer for editing by connecting a firewire cable to the camcorder's i.Link (firewire, DV, IEEE1394) port to the computer's firewire port... USB won't work. If firewire is not in your editing environment then that *may* make the decision for you.
One feature certain people REALLY like is SuperNightShot. The built-in infrared emitter allows monochrome video capture under zero visible light conditions. There is a way to record high compression video to the memory stick, but it may not be good enough quality for you... again, your decision. I don't think it can deal with the large multi-gig memory sticks we are all used to these days, so recording time may be limited...
Hi,
I bought a Sony DCR TRV50 a several years back. At the time this was a pretty good pro-sumer camera. I would like to make educational and travel videos to be viewed on a TV or Web browser.
Can I use the TRV50 or should I get a new camera?
