Sony dcr-trv22

Jan 7, 2004 11:11AM PST

I have been using my camcorder as webcam, but it shuts off after like 5 minutes of use. I thought it had something to do with saving power or something but its plugged in with the dc power. Is there a setting that I can change? Any other ideas?

Just FYI, www.silentwitness.com has Sony modify the camcorders for use in mobile applications so they don't shutdown.

I have no cure for this, but I do know the stock models are programmed to do this to prevent overheating. It has to do a lot with the warranty. i.e. you have a one year warranty. The unit can't (without modifications) run 24x7. Said modification almost triples the price of the camera.

I have a Sony dcr-trv22 and I found that if you use it as a webcam in the camera mode and if you take the tape out, it will not turn off after five minutes.

Ali - I haven't tried it.. But I have been told that if you remove the MiniDV tape from the camcorder, that the machine doesn't switch off like this.

This can be a frustrating problem. I am passing this info along from a website www.homelessbob.com. Read his page. He get's the credit for this one! steps are...
1. Remove any videotapes in camcorder.
2. Remove memory sticks, cards, or other media.
3. Power off the camcorder.
4. Remove the battery if on battery power.
5. Plug in the camcorder AC adapter.
6. Power on the camcorder.

This should work for most brands of camcorders.

good luck.
