Sony DCR-HC48 Can't Transfer Video to Computer

Jun 29, 2007 12:11PM PDT

I determined from Sony that there is no driver for Vista 64 Bit. But they say it should work fine with my Vista 32 Bit computer. I connect my camera with USB, and it automatically installs driver. I click button to send from memory card for pictures and drive appears on computer. I transfer pictures no problem. I try the same function with the tape and nothing happens. There does not appear to be anything I can do to get the computer to recognize the tape on the camera. A friend brings his MAC and plugs in i.link cable and instantly transfers video to computer. I don't have i.link hardware for my computer.

Any help on how I can transfer video to my computer?

With Windows, the USB is for transferring data from the memory card and i.link is for transferring the contents of the tape.

If you have a desktop computer , you can easily add an i.link card.

If you have a laptop computer, you can easily add a Cardbus with i.link.

Here are examples:

Sony calls it i.link, Apple calls it Firewire, some call it IEEE 1394.
But they are all the same thing.

Sony DCR-Hc48 has no Firewire port.
Aug 26, 2014 1:40AM PDT

I borrowed a friend's Sony DCR-HC48 camcorder to record a small event for a group of youths. However, when I later on decided to capture the video to my PC via the IEEE1394 port for editing, I discovered that the camcorder has no such a port. It only has an A/V port for analog capture next to the DC-IN jack located at the back of the unit. How is that possible? Or is it located at some obscure place? I can't find it anywhere on the camcorder! Anyone with any ideas? Thanks.
