Sony DCR-HC46 suddenly all static-y

Aug 5, 2007 10:24AM PDT

I got this camcorder in January. It worked fine, got light use, and all was well until recently I went to record video and found that the picture is now all static-y, like the picture used to look on TVs before cable, when you were trying to get one of those UHF (or was it VHF?) stations. It shows in the viewfinder and screen, and on playback of any video I take now. I can play back older tapes I shot and they still show clear, so it's not a problem with the screens but with the taping/lens/whatever.
Does anybody have any suggestions before I pay Sony a minimum of $129 to fix their apparently shoddy, almost-new, $400 item?
Thank you.
Nancy
