DCR HC42E

The new replacement for this model is the DCR HC46. The 42 may be available a little cheaper, but compare specs before you buy. Eklectronics, especially cameras and camcorders are too soon obsolete and upgraded.

MiniDV should be the choice

DVD is data compression format! That means if you record straight to DVD you loose quality due to the fact that the digital data will be reduced and compressed to fit onto the DVD's. Recording onto MiniDV keeps the data as it is and once you downloaded it to a PC or Mac it's easy to edit. I had the same problem choosing between DVD and MiniDV and decided to stick to the proven Format. I bought Sony DCR HC22E and am very happy so far. Hope that helped!

Hi
Do you know if Sony MiniDV can be used with an iMAC?

If not what is good in terms of using iMovie to edit content from a miniDV

Many thanks

Michael

iMac use of Sony Camcorder
Feb 21, 2006 3:37AM PST

Hi,

most of the Sony Handycam are delivered with a cradle to charge and download the movie. It has USB and Firewire, Sony calls it iLink, connectivity. So if your iMac has these ports, I can't see why you shouldn't be able to use it. The software to download though is MS Windows based and since I don't work with Mac I don't know how iMovie works. However, if it does have a feature to capture from external devices, I can't see it being a problem as the CD that came with my DCR HC22 has a Mac OS driver on it.
But best would be to take your iMac to a shop and test it out.

Good luck
