It does make a difference

Adding too many pixels to a small sensor is what happened to the W300. You're much better off buying a Sony with less pixels, which it will give you better image quality.

Sony W300 - Canon SD950

I have not seen a review of the Sony W300 but there is a review on the Sony W200.
There is little difference between the two.
The W300 has more pixels in the LCD and one more megapixel in the CCD.

Here is a review on the W200:

Here are sample photos from the W200:

Here is a comparison of the specifications between cameras:

As far as the memory stick......they tend to cost a bit more than the SD memory cards.

Definitely go Canon, or even panasonic.

As a past owner of the much acclaimed T-100 and N-1, go canon! Those touch screens are annoying and unresponsive, and the T series is way overpriced. If you are really looking to spend that money I would recommend stepping up to a big boy camera with a high quality glass lens, such as the Panasonic LZ18, Canon S5 IS or Sony H10. I understand portability is important, but at that size the sensor is too small to really take advantage of all those crammed megapixels.

By the way, Cnet reviews cameras kinda funky. They compare top of the line portables to other lower portable, and compare midline, bridge, and ultra-zoom cameras compared to DSLRs. Don't be fooled by numeric scores.
