Since the camera had been put away for a while, I would suspect that the battery is down.
Charge up the battery and try again.
Make sure that the charger is set to the correct wall voltage.
And you should try downloading some photos to your computer.
If you can't, then use a card reader to get the photos into your computer.

I was in Japan about a month ago and while I was there, my uncle was kind enough to buy me a brand new digital camera from Japan. The model is a Sony cybershot dsc-t9 Super Steadyshot... it worked wonderfully while I was in Japan and when I got back to the states, I used it for a couple of days then put it away for a while. About a week ago, I went out with my friends and took some pics the night before. The day that me and my friends actually went out, I took out my camera, and the picture on the screen was all shaky and wavering(sort of like when you are viewing a scrambled tv channel). My heart sank... I didn't drop it, shake it, leave it in any awkward temperatures, etc. It was sudden. And this camera doesn't have a normal viewfinder. It actually stopped wavering for a moment so I thought it might be fixed but when I turned on my camera the next day, it did the same. It hasn't stopped since.
this is what the screen basically looks like:

I haven't actually tried to upload any pictures to my computer to see if they would turn out anyways because I'm still just shocked that this happened. I've only had this camera for a month and I really loved it so I'm rather disappointed about this whole thing. I'm doubting there's anything I can actually do about this camera because it was purchased in Japan, and this doesn't seem to be a problem that's fixable... but if anyone has any suggestions or comments on what might have happened, I would appreciate it.
