Question

Sony Bravia Picture Problem - Vertical Lines

Apr 23, 2018 9:21AM PDT

My Sony Bravia KDL-40Z4100 is experiencing intermittent image problems. The picture becomes obscured with flashing vertical lines that vary in intensity. The problem comes and goes. Its been happening for about six months now. Used to last for 15 minutes before normal picture returned. Seems to be getting worse now. Whats wrong / how do I fix?

Clarification Request
Is this a model from 2005?

If so I'd get estimates but no shop tends to go near such an old set.

If you are an electronics tech that knows about the LETHAL voltages inside, I'd start with unplugging and re-plugging all internal connections. I do not suggest repair on over decade old TVs today.

The TV was bought in 2009. Would hate to get rid of it if its just a loose connection or a part easily replaced. Picture and sound are fine when the problem is dormant.

Very few parts are easy to replace.

Maybe the remote and power cable but little else. As to parts, at this age I don't see parts on the usual sites because of its age. But this doesn't mean I would not give it the usual attempt.

Remember that I always warn folk about LETHAL VOLTAGES since to unplug and plug what we find inside does mean proper safety procedures must be followed.
