Question

Sony Bravia 55XE7003

by Kenny64 / December 29, 2017 2:07 PM PST

Can someone please tell me where "unknown sources" is located on this TV. I have searched and searched and cannot find this under settings. There are preloaded apps on this TV, can other apps be downloaded or is this one of the Sony sets that will not allow you to do this. Thank you.

Android doesn't mean it will be like other Androids.

So many examples like this TV, Amazon Fire TV and so on.

Folk expected so much more. I take it you have googled this and know what folk are complaining about (it's not your average Android OS after all.)

Disappointing

Yes, googled it to death. Was told when buying this that other apps could be dowloaded (apart from preloaded ones) but looks now not to be the case. Pretty disappointing....thanks...

You can use that to return it for a full refund.

You can also post in the usual AVS Forum but no discussion I've seen turns it into a full blown Android with the Play Store and more.

The TV makers want to maintain control and it shows from all makers so far.

If we were to chat over lunch we would go over how the makers cut deals to put the apps on the TV for a cut in the revenue. (A piece of the action.) So when you use Netflix on a smart TV, they get a cut of the rental fee. If they allowed folk the freedom to say use Kodi then no cut.

If you want to break free, add a real Android box but that's in the news too.

A misrepresented product is something that you can push the return window on.
