Question

sony bdv-e2100. tearing my hair out.

Jan 2, 2015 5:58PM PST

I have just replaced my old sony home cinema system, so I can get surround sound when hooked up to the tv, because the tv sound is bad. But all I can get is 2 channel sound, is this correct or have I missed something. I'm using an optical lead from TiVo box to sony surround amp for sound on tv, and hdmi leads from TiVo to tv and sony amp to tv. I'd be grateful of any help or tips, thanks a lot barjay80

Dear Bob from Barjay80 regarding sony bdv-e2100
Jan 3, 2015 5:33PM PST

I thank you very much for your reply and explanation, but being a complete novice where home audio and video are concerned, is it possible to put the answer in layman's terms for me if it's not too much trouble, Thanks again, Barjay80.

All makes/models please

In order to be 100% certain of what you are working with, please be more detailed in your precise equipment. We need all makes/models to figure it out. There may be a setting involved too. Replying in clean paragraphs/sentences can also help too.

Is there something specific about Bob's reply that you do not understand? 'Sources' means any of the various inputs of your system, including blu ray players, TiVo or cable boxes. The components which provide the audio/video content that get passed along to the AV receivers/etc.

Dear Pepe7, Since reading the article that Bob suggested on TV's that can pass surround sound, I am now quiet clear on this matter, and would like to take this opportunity to thank all very much involved for their help, Barjay 80.

You really don't need that

It can also be somewhat like trying to find a unicorn Wink

I suggest first learning slowly how the connections make the difference (especially when a simple AV receiver is quite cheap now) instead of the notion that there's a 'magic bullet' HDTV out there which can act as a media hub.

cheers

Answer
2.1 sound
Jan 14, 2015 6:53AM PST

2.1 sound is not from the tv it depends on the channel that you watch some channel will have 5.1 so your sound system will give out 5.1 and if your sound system has 2.1 to 5.1 converter you can make use of it

2.1--> 5.1
