Sony, Are they worth it?

Nov 11, 2005 1:42AM PST

Hey all, this is my question: I keep hearing bad stuff about how sony notebooks are good looking badly made computers but surely this isn't the whole truth. Doesn't the phrase "its a sony" stand for anything anymore? I'd like to have some feedback on your experiences to get a better idea of the good and the bad to expect after a notebook purchase. Its either that or i'm switching to apple!

I have a Sony...

Laptop (PCG-FRV34) and I wrote a review for one a while ago (http://reviews.cnet.com/4852-5_7-31136070.html?tag=tab).

I've had the notebook for a couple of months now (pre-owned from eBay) and one of the speakers didn't work when I got it. Of course, because of this I saved hundreds of dollar$ and the laptop never leaves my desk anyway. As for quality issues my Sony (besides the 1 speaker) is very good, one of the higher to be sure. This has got to be the best thing I have ever bought that says "Made in China" on the bottom.Happy

In short, I would buy a Sony over an Averatec or Alienware or any Celeron-powered laptop any day.

i have used apples and sony laptops before and a sony is just a rip off when you buy their computers, they are build badly and give you bad components, even though i am a pc user, i'd rather buy apple than sony

Buy an apple

I agree, I support 350 users. Unfortunately there are users that insist upon purchasing Sony due to their light weight. They usually die within 18 months. The worst thing about them is there customer service is abominable. They are rude and usually clueless. Everything must be paid for up front on a credit card. Our company has a purchase order process, but I had to fight tooth and nail to get them to accept those. I wouldn't buy a Sony for personal use, no way, shape, or form.

Add this to your arsenal. SONY ROOTKIT.

No business I know of will allow a ROOTKIT on their machines.

Does SONY ship laptops with it preinstalled?

Type SONY ROOTKIT into google.com and get your ammo.
