"I have heard that this does not maximize quality and an analog - digital converter to input into the computer produces better quality dvds as well as giving better editing, etc functions."
I have returned to using my DVD recorder because it gives me the best results!

I have a lot of old (1992-199
Sony 8mm video cassettes that i would like to digitize. the camera is dead and gone but I have a Sony digital VCR that does play the tapes and has video, left and right audio (red white yellow) outputs and s-video.
what kind of interface device do i need to convert this analog signal to digital thence into my Dell studio 1500 quad core laptop. I would use an external 1 TB for storage.
I have connected the 8mm vcr to my panasonic dvd and made dvds in this manner but I have heard that this does not maximize quality and an analog - digital converter to input into the computer produces better quality dvds as well as giving better editing, etc functions.
