Sony 50'' - KF50WE620

Aug 26, 2005 1:30PM PDT

I was wondering if the KF50WE720 50'' LCD-Projection TV is any good. I heard that the TV lacks 1080p functionality. Is that a big difference in picture quality from 1080i? And I heard that there will be a new model coming out, when?

its a very good tv. It lacks the ability to show you all the detail of 1080i or 1080P. But yes there is a big picture quality difference between that tv (720P) and a 1080P tv.

The new model is already out. Its the A10 model.

I thought it could display 1080i.

it can display a 1080i picture but just can't show you every bit of detail that could be shown. The sony tv has a 1280 X 720 resolution which shows about 921,600 pixels. A 1080i broadcast has 2,073,000 pixels that can be shown which is why you would need a tv with a resolution of 1920 X 1080 to show you all of that detail. The sony is a great tv but if you want more resolution and don't mind paying a little more check out sony's website for the new SXRD 50 and 60" LCoS tv's. They will show you all the detail of a 1080i broadcast and when 1080P is broadcast they have that covered as well.

Good luck differentiating between those two resolutions. I sure can't tell the difference on a 50 inch screen at a normal veiwing distance.
