Sonos Mutl-room Home Audio

by bevillan / June 11, 2007 12:03 AM PDT

Does anyone have the Sonos multiple-room home audio system? I'm probably going to be moving to a bigger house next year sometime and want to rig up my house with an audio system that can all be controlled from one remote wireless (not direct line-of-sight).

The Sonos system seems to be the best out there for around $1000 and the remote that they have you use is the most liked feature apparently. Anyone have it or a comparable system?

Sonos Multi-Zone System
by tdavism3 / June 11, 2007 2:24 AM PDT

I have a five zone sonos system in our home and love it. The system is very reliable and easy to use. In my opinion, it is one of the best A/V products to come along in years. I highly recommend it!

Where did you buy it from and how much do you think you have spent on the five zone system you have?

Eager to hear how you set yours up. Did you set up 5 zones with the higher priced, amplifier included base stations? Did you buy 5 remotes? What type of speakers did you buy? Are they the Sonos speakers and if so, how do you like them?

I'm want the system but am thinking that it may cost me like $1,000 per room with decent speakers. Am I on the right track?

I presume you know a grand is just the entry price.

The Sonos is nearly great. You will want more than one of the admired controller/remotes @$400 each, not to mention extra zone players for rooms @ $350 or $500 each. Top that off with the huge hard drive you will want to store your music library &, by the way, you will have to load all your treasured music library into the hard drive.

That said, once you're going, your home free for unheard of convenience at this price point before. That's because us normal folks aren't going to get into a full featured Crestron custom installation.

No discounts to be had as you are buying only from Sonos - no competition.

I thought you could stream your PC music library to your Sonos system without having to upload everything to a Sonos HD. Don't you just need to put a Sonos wireless receiver connected to your PC?

For stuff like Rhapsody subscription service (which is great

but many of us have assembled hundreds of CDs, even old vinyl in my case, amounting to our music library. That stuff will need to be manually loaded to the hard drive for convenient future use. Of value & convenient in the long run, but work to be done once.

BTW, the hard drive will be provided by you (not a Sonos item) compatible with your computer.

Speakers for Sonos ZP

May I ask what speakers you are using and whether you are happy with them? We are about to install several Sonos zone players in our remodelled house and each person with whom I have spoken has a different recommendation for the best speakers (Polk MC60, SpeakerCraft AIM5 Three, B&W ccm618, and Klipsch cdt-2650-c) to pair with the zone player.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
