Question

SonicWALL with 3 managed switch and 1 VLAN config

Apr 17, 2017 4:33PM PDT

I am setting up a new network, Comcast ISP they gave the client an XB3. So the topology -> Comcast modem -> SonicWALL (Static IP set on WAN) -> Managed Switch(MS) 1 -> MS 2 PoE -> MS 3. 2 WAPs coming off of the PoE Switch. OK, so.. I really only want to create 1 VLAN, it needs to be isolated from the main LAN, subnets are 192.168.1.x\24 and 192.168.5.x\24. The AP's are Engenius, so I have dual band with the main office which is on default VLAN 1, I want the guest network on VLAN 5. The SonicWALL has a virtual interface set to VLAN 5 with the parent as X0(LAN). For the life of me I cannot get the two access points on VLAN 5 and get internet access. I have the VLAN set on the AP, I have the virtual interface set to VLAN 5 192.168.5.1 and I have tagged all of the ports to VLAN 5 on all of the switches. Why can I not get internet and the DHCP scope created on the SonicWALL to hand out IP? Do I need to untag VLAN 1 on all of the ports?

Answer
Due to the advanced nature of this setup.

I'll send you back to Sonicwall support. If they don't do this, then they should have network engineers they hire out for company projects like this.

-> Sorry if this puts you off. For this type of service the office charges by the hour or by RFQ and bid.

Very offputting.. Not even a suggestion..

Im sure I will figure it out myself tomorrow while onsite.

Sorry that it came off like that.

It's an advanced setup that we sit down and draw out a plan and a written estimate. I know folk that want such for free and are upset when advanced setups cost to get setup.

You did pay for the gear so see what free support and training they can give you.

Untag Vlan1

Yes, I understand. I tried to be as detailed as possible for a good picture of the network. The question was overlooked I think, "Would untagging VLAN1 on all ports correct my issue" This is what correct the problem. All ports on all switches are tagged with VLAN 5 and untagged on VLAN 1

Seems you can test that theory.

Untag one and see if it does what you want.
