son deleted volume controls

please help, my son inadvertanly deleted all volume controls and the ability to re install them, i have re installed windows disk, and done everything i could think of, i even deleted my sound card and windows disk re installed it and still no sound, please help, my children are driving me and my wife crazy, which means the wife drives me crazy, please help an almost insane man

It would help if we knew what version of Windows you were running.

Are you saying that in Control Panel, there is no Sounds link?

oops, sorry, i am using a dell, windows 98 . i attempted to restore the controls to the taskbar from multimedia in the control panel and it says it needs to be installed by using add/remove software, but i see nothing that will do that, i also reinstalled windows disk and saved all all files and it did not reappear, i am at a total loss and ignorant as to what to do nest, can you help?

I'm now running XP, but try this. Open Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and click (I think) add/remove Windows components. Search through the list and look for sounds.

If you go to Control Panel and Add/Remove hardware then click the middle tab at the top... After that check the multimedia box and press okay, that should fix your problem.
