I have a very similar problem in that I can successfully ping to websites, but I can not for the life of me get my browser to connect to the internet. I have tried many different settings and reloaded my windows 98 se software.
After 3 weeks of successful work (two computers: OS=Win2K, SP 4, wireless router DI-524, adapter DWL-G510, both DLink, Rogers cable high speed Internet) second PC (PC_B for short) lost Internet access. Same day it lost the feature to automatically get IpAddress from DHCP server (router). I am not sure, but probably it happened after I used some anti-spyware. So I assigned everything manually(Ip, gateway, DNS etc) as DLink recommended to PC_B. Result- I can see network (I mean, first PC, PC_A for short) but there is no Internet connection. After couple calls to DLink support service I ?ve done everything they recommended me: uninstalled firewall from PC_A (PC_B doesn?t have any firewall), reinstalled OS on both PC, reset (hard) router to factory setting and repeated configuration procedure... No luck- PC_A is OK (automatic Ip, Internet access, can reach PC_B), PC_B doesn?t have Internet access (but can reach PC_A). Forgot to mentioned 1 more thing- during DLink support service call I tried to ping some web sites and got 'unknown host' when used 'ping www.yahoo.com', but they mentioned everything was OK using 'ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx'(i.e. yahoo ipaddress).
Sorry for so long message but I really don?t know how to fix this problem. Thanks in advance
