Any add-ons?

I can't see why this should be happening, but I note that some add-ons will strip HTML and Scripts from a page, eg NoScript and AdBlockPlus.

What add-ons does your Firefox have?

Re: Dreamweaver

Dreamweaver isn't a browser. So if it happens in Dreamweaver, it's not a browser problem, but a Dreamweaver problem, and you posted in the wrong forum.

MarkFlax you nailed it, sorta

MarkFlax, thanks for the lead. I turned off Adblock plus, which I have on both my Firefox and Chrome but that did not help. Then, I looked at the two lists of extensions and the only one I had on both browsers was Linkification. I uninstalled that and sure enough - that's the culprit. It strips out all the URL text and tries to turn it into working links and when that doesn't happen, it gives up and leaves you with HTML sans the proper links.

You don't have to lose it

just disable it whenever you are testing web pages.

I saw Kees' post about Dreamweaver and agreed with that, but then I thought, all the html editors I have used offered an 'in-browser' test of the code, and they used the default browser for that, or I could change the default browser to one I wanted for testing. That might explain why Dreamweaver failed as well.

Glad you found the problem.
