Something for nothing from Verizon?

by Tony Holmes / July 15, 2006 10:57 PM PDT

I recently got a friendly email from verizon telling me my base fios package of 5/2 would be upgraded to 10/2 at no additional cost on 7/13/06.

I had fios installed in Feb at 29.95 per/mo for the 1st yr,34.95 thereafter and have had "0" downtime.Voice quality of the phone service is much clearer also.At these prices for that kind of speed/service,they're going for Cablevision's throat.:)

It's hard to find a speed test that's accurate enough,I average between 9 and 11 megs down depending on the test. This 3.2gig Dell is operating at afterburner speeds and my music "aquiring" now takes seconds per song.

If it's available to you,get it!

I hate cablevision
by WOODS-HICK / July 15, 2006 11:26 PM PDT

as soon as verizon gets here I will switch. I am too far for dsl, and we are far down on the list for fios. population too small and spread out. they are installing in higher density area first. I use dialup w/att and verizon for local.

ever since cablevison went with their new boxes quality has gone down, they are too sensitive regarding signal strength. customer service is horrible. they are a perfect example of why unregulated monopolies should not exist.

I would never use them for phone service. if power or cable goes out, all communication gone. hard wired, land line works unless your drop, feeder cables, or pole is not functioning. verizon has battery and generator backups. it costs more, than the IO packages, but it is there for emergencies and to notify cablevision and power company their services are out.

to get DSL out here for ages, when I gave up and went to Qwest, I get this email from AT&T offering their dial-up for 9.95 a month, after I had been paying 19.95 for several years!!! Really ticked me off! They still don't have DSL out here:(
