from one network card to another, the cable being used should be a crossover cable not a standard CAT5 cable.
Once this is gotten the next obstacles are software settings such as:
1) workgroup names the same
2) file and print sharing turned on
3) some folders set to be shared
4) firewalls turned off or local traffic being allowed.
Thank you for taking the time to read this whoever you are wherever you are. I know ABSOLUTELY nothing about creating a network so please when you reply to this... treat me like a kid. Basically I have some folders that are about 4 gigs big and they need to go from my laptop which is equipped with a wireless network card, to my computer which has no wireless card or anything. I had planned on just doing a direct connection with a networking cable (cat5) but after hours of toying with the network wizards after plugging in the cable i've come to the conclusion that i can't figure it out. Please someone, anyone... Teach me like a baby and tell me what I need and what to do with it. Your help would be appriciated to no end. Thank you in advance
