Your alternative other than Knoppix....

is to place the hard drive in another XP PC as a second drive. If seen the drive can be accessed to copy files off to the host drive.

Or if Michael suggestion cant be done

create a boot CD using Barts PE
http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/index.php

Just down load the basic version - unzip and run "bart PE builder on a friends computer - dont worry about downloading any add-ons as the basic version has an explorer type program - after running the BartPE program you just need to burn the image to a CD - its like booting to safe mode and you can copy documents from your hard disk until you get your problem fixed on a permanent basis.

what do you mean by:-
"it lets me only into the files from other 2 files"

Do you mean partitions - ie does your hard drive have 3 partitions.
Are all partitions NTFS???
Have a look in admin tools -computer manager - disk manager - It should be marked as "active" if not let me know.
Firstly is the disk listed and is it marked active?
check the disk for errors but dont let it Fix them.

Did you remember to change the jumper on your drive to Slave
May 28, 2005 3:48PM PDT

before installing it in your friends pc? This could be why the computer isn't seeing it. Check the settings. If this works, the drive will show up as the next letter in line after your friends drive. If both drives are in the same file format, the jumper settings are correct and all connections are made then you should be able to access the files from your drive. If it still doesn't show up, then the drive is probably toast.

Robert telling you to load fewer files at a time. Did you follow his instructions???

Seemed that things were pretty well under control.

There are so many quotes to tell you that your problems don't automatically create an emergency for others.

No one here is getting paid one penny for providing this help. Some of them even have to work to feed their families, and even sleep once in a while.
