Sometimes you've got to be slippery to accomplish real good. The Bush administration is thus facing an insincerity crisis. It has become addicted to candor and forthrightness. It needs an immediate back-stabbing infusion.

Perhaps Al Gore could be brought in to offer advice

as the "Democratic Presidential Candidate Debates" (every single one won handily by GWB) keep going the New York Times appears to actually be opening its eyes and seeing reality every once in a while.

The author of the editorial is not your garden variety NYT editor.

According to his bio he was formerly an editor at the WSJ and at the Weekly Standard. Those don't sound like breeding grounds for liberal opinion.

Hi, Ed.

What he calls "forthrightness," I'd call "shooting from the hip and alienating friend and foe alike." As for candor, secrecy and misdirection are more the order of the day in the Bush Administration, both at home and abroad.

expect no more from you because, although you apparently refuse to see it, you are being spoken of in the article--you prefer and desire the less than honest "old way" and "business as usual".

At least some on the New york Times (long a bastion of the ultra left) are seeing beyond their blinkers (in fits and starts, but it is happening).
