Question

Some LG App keeps hanging

Dec 24, 2016 1:39PM PST

This is an 8 month old OLED 55E6V, best I have ever had - until this problem flares up.

Essentially, whatever I am doing, every 2 minutes or so the screen goes green and a small message in the corner says "This App will now restart to free up memory". That interrupts whatever you're watching or listening to.

I had been trying to watch a movie from a USB drive. Gave up on that. It happens so quickly, you can't even get in to settings to reset the whole thing to the original factory settings.

I am going to switch it off and unplug it tonight, detaching USB and Apple TV, but would be pleased to hear if anyone has had a similar experience, and if they have a solution. Getting an answer from Korea is a bit of an uphill task.

Thanks

Answer
Is this when playing content from USB?

The players I see in Smart TVs are limited things. Nothing close to a PC we had over a decade ago.

The reset failure to me makes this a warranty issue. If the maker can't fix that, head to the returns counter.

Thanks. It seemed to be triggered by trying to watch via USB drive, but I've detached that an left the whole thing unplugged to see if it'll behave in the morning. I'm sure it's a software glitch, but agree it needs to be sorted, hopefully LG will step up to the plate

I forgot an important thing.

Be sure the firmware in the set is up to their latest. While that may not cure the video player (you can find prior discussions about Smart TVs and their awful video players) it should correct the issue where you can't reset the set to factory condition.

But if that doesn't fix it, it's a warranty issue plain and simple.
