General discussion

Some DVDs are dropping dialogue only

Feb 24, 2009 3:09AM PST

I have a Samsung BD-P1500 blu ray player and a Samsung HT-AS720ST home theater 7.1 system. I have updated the blu ray player with all available firmware updates. Periodically when I play certain DVDs, it seems to be only affecting some 1990-2000 dvds, the dialogue drops completely on playback. I get all the background noise through my surround speakers, but no dialogue from the center/front speakers at all. I have done a little troubleshooting, but I am not coming up with a solution. Any suggestions? I would love to fix this issue as it is very annoying to rent dvds, get them home, and then cross my fingers to see if I can hear dialogue or not. One of the beauties of this system is going back and watching older movies and seeing the detail and clarity like never before, but when it is without dialogue, not so much.

Help! Thanks,

Stuart

stuartpc,

How is the Blu-Ray player connected to the AS720? Are you using straight HDMI for both video and audio, or are you using optical audio from the Blu-Ray to the AS720?

Try setting the digital audio out in the Bluray player menu from PCM to Bitstream Audiophile.
