some basics needed here - memory cards

Nov 29, 2004 9:41AM PST

I don't own a digital camera - yet. However, I've got hundreds of old scanned photos on my pc. I am looking at a digital photo viewer at radio shack that allows you to insert a memory card and view photos on it as a stand alone unit, or it can be attached to a tv or a pc.
Question: can I connect a memory card to my pc using some tyle of cable (or plug in directly), in order to transfer photos onto the card for viewing? Or, must I have a "card reader" to do this? Store clerks aren't very helpful, and friends and co-workers don't seem to know either.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Also, any advice or experience with these photo viewers? Radio Shack's is only $50. I've seen some online for several hundred, but they are beyond my budget. Thanks again.

hardware to communicate with the PC. It does not have its own hardware and software for this. However, there are devices which are little more than memory cards with a USB connection, and a bit of software. These can be written to without additional equipment. They are usually called flash drives or something similar. I don't know if they can be attached to a viewer. Why not use the PC as a viewer, or get the pictures printed?
