Question

Some advice/help connecting an older laptop to a new network

Feb 28, 2018 10:47PM PST

Hi Everyone!

I was wondering if anyone had any advice regarding connecting an older Acer Aspire (running MS Vista) to a new router / wireless network.

When first attempting to connect the Laptop, I got as far as inputing the wireless key and connecting to the network, however the connection didn't follow through to allow connection to the internet, but rather the connection status was listed as "local access only". Similarly, the, when connected to the network, rather than saying the network's name, it shows up as "Unidentified Network(Network_name)" or "Public Network(Network_name)". From what I can tell it's an issue with the settings I used when connecting, because running a wired connection with an ethernet cable straight to the router works without any issue.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Happy
