The trial is finally over, and Huntley was found guilty of murdering Jessica and Holly. He gets life for each count, the mandatory sentence for murder. He is also to undergo psychiatric tests to determine whether he ought to be committed to a Seucre Hospital, instead of prison. If they deem this appropriate then he has no rights to parole, and can be held there for as long as they wish, under the provisions of the Mental Health Act.
He also now faces more investigations, as information is coming to light the guy has a history of sexual interest in underage girls, including unlawful sex with minors as youing as 12 years old. None of these allegations was proven, however they my lead to more charges against him, this time for the rape of the two young friends.
This comes as little surprise to me. I always had questions about his conduct:
1. What was a grown man doing in a bathroom with two girls?
2. IF this was indeed a tragic mishap, why did he try to hide the bodies instead of alerting help?
3. If he was innocent, why did he feel a need to strip the girls naked?
All are things he admitted in court, and surely not the actions of a rational and innocent man.
As Jessic's father said at a press conference after the verdict:
The next time Ian Huntley is seen in public, I hope it will be the same way as those girls.... in a box.
