Resolved Question

Software to do automatic data backups and restore

Mar 1, 2013 4:34AM PST

A data backup created by Norton 360 on a Windows XP computer failed when I tried to restore it on a Windows 7 computer that also had Norton 360. Fortunately, I had also done a manual data backup and was able to restore most of the data. What software is available that will allow automatic data backups that can be restored to a different OS or different hardware?

I think you had a longer question in mind.

While I can use BlinkSync to automate this, I think you were looking for more than a tool and using the Windows Scheduler to get this done. I would be guessing that you wanted more. Such as those that want to backup and restore applications. Files are -> No problem.

There is no app today that will tackle the app issue for many reasons. I'll stop here on that.

As to files, you can look at GoodSync, SyncBack and of course BlinkSync and use Windows Scheduler to finish the job.

Thanks R. Proffitt. You are right, I am interested only in backing up data files, not applications or system information. I have reviewed the three programs you suggested, and have decided to try SyncBack Free.
