software problem

Mar 13, 2004 2:14PM PST

I'm running windows xp on an e-machine. I tryed to install oregon trail 2, which is a 3 disk set for windows 95/98, and final fantasy 8, which is 5 disks for windows 95/98. Both seemed to install just fine. The I went to play them and the computer asked me to insert disk one. Disk one was in there and I reinserted and tryed agin. It told me wrong disk please insert disk one. I was wondering if this was a problem with my computer or a compatibility issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

? Wrong Disk ? Consider piracy issues--in which case, no help will be offered here. Policy.
? Try the compaibility wizard at Start>Accessories.
? Get your money back if it does not work for an honest copy.

This is a common problem with pirated games. There are two ways around it, but that's all the help you're getting on the matter. While I don't have any particular moral objection to piracy, I do believe that if you want something for free it means you accept *ALL* the consequences that go with it, like figuring out these sorts of problems on your own.

Post the contents of your CONFIG.SYS and I'll check to see if a REAL MODE CDROM driver is installed. A CDROM driver in config.sys can cause this issue and more

IF the game are "copies", then the copy protection is working and you should just hand the disks back to the supplier and tell them not to waste your time.

There were a very very very very very (I've seen ONE!) cdrom drives that failed to work with the copy protection and a new drive fixed that. But this is so rare, I really shouldn't mention it.
