Socialists: Give apes human rights

The Spanish Socialist Party will introduce a bill in the Congress of Deputies calling for "the immediate inclusion of (simians) in the category of persons, and that they be given the moral and legal protection that currently are only enjoyed by human beings."

Not too surprising when you think about it.

this suggestion might really serve a purpose in assisting the conservation of the rapidly dwindling ape populations around the world.

On the other hand it might only result in many folks just being classified as cannibals since most apes in the wild are being killed for bush meat. Sad

I just wonder if the Spanish Socialists have "given" basic rights to unborn humans before apes.

Not surprising at all, especially since....
