this suggestion might really serve a purpose in assisting the conservation of the rapidly dwindling ape populations around the world.
On the other hand it might only result in many folks just being classified as cannibals since most apes in the wild are being killed for bush meat.

Socialists: Give apes human rights
The Spanish Socialist Party will introduce a bill in the Congress of Deputies calling for "the immediate inclusion of (simians) in the category of persons, and that they be given the moral and legal protection that currently are only enjoyed by human beings."
Not too surprising when you think about it.

a program that places unwanted infants into great homes and helps support them there, and solve the problem. Rather than introducing a complete "red" herring into a discussion about other species which are on the verge of extinction.

...apes are smarter than more than a few people. Certainly smarter than anyone who finds themselves on "Cops" or up for a Darwin award.
