So, how many of you knew Nuestro Himno was originated

by an Anglo, not just an Anglo, but a from England Anglo.

"Unfortunately, the whole idea was concocted by a white dude.

"Yes, my fellow Murkins, ?Nuestro Himno? is the brainchild of British music producer Adam Kidron. Let?s face it. Although he claims it?s a gesture of support for Hispanic immigrants, it?s really a tribute to the ?entremanureal spirit? that Bush gasbags about so often. It?s about making big bucks.

"Kidron, who moved stateside in the 90s after producing folks like Ian Dury and the Blockheads in England, and who opened the Latino-oriented label ?Urban Box Office,? saw a unique niche and went for it. Illegal immigration protests plus white bread xenophobia equals a possible cash cow.

"Now, the Right Wingers point out that lyrics have been changed. (The second verse reads: ?The time has come to break the chains/Throughout the night they proclaimed, /?We will defend it.?/ Tell me! Does its starry beauty still wave/ Above the land of the free,/ The sacred flag.?)

"So what? How many of us grew up thinking we were singing ?Jose. Can you see?? If we envisioned Feliciano, the answer, clearly, was ?no.? So, the rest of the ditty pretty much made no sense. Plus, a lot of us thought the last line was ?Play ball!? "

I offer this so that if anyone is inclined to burn a Mexican in effigy, maybe they'd like to think again.
