So far it's not your machine (Med Network)

Bob - that much I could figure. My system's as clean as a whistle, and I've just been trying to prove where the problem is at.

I've noticed that the problem traceroutes usually go south after hop #5, which makes me think it's between Ntelos and Alter/MCI and Sprint.

The fact that it happens intermittently and is persistent when it does is just the aggrivating part of the problem. I do know from talking to the owner of the ISP that he removed his DNS server (the .9 machine) from the mix, and obtained DNS from his upstream provider, and it still happened.

If you do find anything about the "where" the problem is, please relay the info. I know that I have yanked out handfuls of hair over this one myself, before even coming here. This was the first forum I found where people were referring to this particular problem.

Thanks for the help.

In both, hops #1 thru #7 are identical.

Wouldn't that lead you to believe that the differing hop would be where the DNS cache corruption might be, since one website works and one does not?
