The problem could have been that it is a Catholic (aka religious) school. They tend to be more rigid than secular schools. Worked with a guy once that had been fired from the local religious (Protestant) elementary school because he wife divorced him (she wasn't a Christian).

I wonder why he would think that VT would have anything to do with the stock market?

In deference to the professor's views... one would think a simple flesh wound would have sufficed as an appropriate rebuke for his ad-lib lecture.
