Snake in the Grass

May 4, 2004 10:30AM PDT

My daughter acidentally stepped on a rat snake today. It wasn't badly hurt, but it did glare at her for a while. She called a friend who has snakes for pets and he attempted to capture it. The da*n snake scooted under the garage door and now I'm hoping it doesn't decide to slither into the house. I don't think I'll ask for suggestions on how to capture it again because I don't want to look for the creature. The garage door is open so maybe it found its way out.

It'll only stick around for it's favorite meal....mice. If you have mice be thankful that's it's there, if not, it will leave and look for mice elsewhere. You win either way Happy

Hi Clay,

I don't know if there are any mice in the garage because it's too loaded with "stuff" to see them. If there are, then the snake is more than welcome to room and board as long as I don't see it - EVER.

That's about as much as it wants to see people. If you ever do see it just leave it a path to be on it's way and it'll run every time.

Had one come in my yard last year, actually about this time of year. Beautiful fellow about 4 feet long, just shed I suppose.
I caught it, introduced it to my wife, and said I would like to direct it under the house, as we do have occasional rats that seem to like it under there too.
Reply was "Snake under house = Divorce". So I turned it loose, and aimed it at a neighbors yard. Ah, well, guess she likes rats better....

Make sure it isn't pregnant. My youngest kid brought home a big fat garter snake one day and put it in a barrel. Next morning when I lifted the lid to throw in some garbage there was about 200 little snakes in there Shocked

Hi George,
I didn't get close enough to the critter to see if it was in a family way LOL - but if I see hundreds of slithering creatures in the garage, I'll be packing my bags.

Hi Sasha;

I'm sorry I mentioned that. Don't even worry about that snake. It was mid-summer when the kid brought that snake home.
My guess its a male. Plus, I think its too early in the season for the females to reproduce. You'll be OK. Think positive.Happy
