smtp error on outgoing mail

May 13, 2008 11:32AM PDT

Sometimes, when I try to send an email (using Mail program on iMac G5 w/iSight), I get an error window that says, "This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered. The server "smtp.comcast.net" rejected the address "xyz@abc.com".

How do I fix this? I know that this is a good email address.

Thanks.

Sometimes

a mail server will refuse to accept an address and you will spend ages trying to figure out why.

mostly it happens because the email address is flawed in some way. A comma instead of a period, a space in the addresses.

Try deleting the email and making a new one. This time manually type the address in, do not allow MAIL to autocomplete, and see how far you get this time.
Delete the old email out of the OUT box before you try to send the new one

Blocked ports
May 13, 2008 1:45PM PDT

Some ISPs block certain ports if you do not use their own email services or whatnot.

For an example, see this regarding port blocking with .Mac and Mail.app. It could be you have a blocked port or not. This may not be the exact solution however, as you seem to suggest that your email works and this problem is not frequent, where something like port 25 would prevent you from sending any email at all. I'd think your case would be different as port 25 is blocked for and I can't send messages through it. I use 587. Check that out and let us know how that gets on. Again this may not be the same problem, so ket us know what port you are using now before you change it, if you want to.

Just my two cents.
