Smiley Central Spyware

Dec 20, 2004 1:37AM PST

I have just installed Spybot and discovered that there were a number of spyware files originating from Smiley Central who claim that they do not use them for any spyware or adware. My wife loves using the emotions, can the reassurances stated in Smiley Central be trusted?

I also had 3 "DSO EXPLOIT" red flags but they could not be removed. Are they MS files and should be left alone?

Thanks for any advice.

Both of these issues have been discussed and solved in the Security Forum.

Can you use those answers first?

Searching, bleary-eyed

Apologies for sounding ********, however - Wink After searching the only "Security" forum I can find here, called "Virus & security alerts" and having done a search on both Smiley Central and that forum, I still do not see a lot of info other than, "how to remove" it.
I was looking for a confirmation that 1) it carries viruses (I believe the number of people with problems suggests a Yes to that.) and 2) if there were a way to disable the web part of it, allowing it for emails only. *shrug* The MIL loves them, but I'm beginning to think she is just going to have to do without, as it seems there is no way to have them other than ala spy/virus topping, so to speak.
If you could confirm that conclusion, I would be grateful.

You've posted to an old thread and it's not likely to be seen. You should re-post in Virus & Security forum.

Hey yes you are right
Never get attracted to those atractive free smileys. I downloaded the smileycentral setup file, and I scanned it with AVG antivirus, it detected a serious Trojan Horse.
I forgot its name because I deleted it.
Good wishes.
