Yes you can do this with a homebrew Linux based NAS. There has always been a way to reduce cost with your expertise at Linux. However some of the newer IT staff seem to be only users and not programmers and more.
I've been looking inside some NAS appliances and inside I find Linux. It's quite fun.
Hi everyone, I need some input from SMB network/system admins on backup options.
I'm designing a client/server network for a company that has approx. 15 client workstations. I'm researching backup options but having difficulty selecting an option for this company because they have an extremely tight IT budget.
They have one domain controller via Windows 2K3 and no other servers. They will probably opt for either RAID 2 or 5 on that server, via SATA controllers as well. If possible, I would like to recommend a NAS solution but also want to provide a removable archival media as well. Are there any NAS devices that can also backup to say, DVD/RW or Tape that are priced for the SMB?
