Resolved Question

Smartt View 2 won't connect Win 7 PC to UN40H6350A TV

Dec 28, 2014 6:48AM PST

I recently bought a UN40H6350A TV. It's properly connected to my WiFi network, and can stream from NetFlix and so on. I installed the Smart View 2.0 app from http://www.samsung.com/ae/support/smartview2/ on my PC running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, fully updated.

After running the Smart View app on my PC, I click the "Connect to TV" button. It correctly finds my TV and shows an icon for it. However when I click the icon, nothing happens. The (very brief) instructions suggest that it should offer a dialog for entering a PIN displayed on the TV, but that doesn't appear.

The PC normally uses a wired connection, and I also connected to the WiFi network for this purpose. I tried disconnecting the wired connection in case that mattered, but I got the same result.

Anyone have any ideas?

Clarification Request
There are too many reasons for this one.

http://www.samsung.com/ae/support/smartview2/ shows a LIVE CHAT button to ask your question almost every day of the year. There are some long discussions about this thing but for Netflix, that should be an easy no. Netflix may have to tell you why since even when I linked why, folk didn't believe it.

Not a Netflix problem

I mentioned Netflix only to clarify that the WiFi connection is just fine. I did try the "Live chat" button but it never got picked up, so I guess I can try that again later.

Can you point me at any of the long discussions? I was unable to find anything relevant after a fair amount of googling.

It's out there.

The TV is a walled garden so what it can or can't do is in code that is not ours to control. Also, when an app launches, it controls what happens on the TV creating all sorts of odd issues.

Screen sharing on a PC is totally different where we are on an OS that is not under control by the TV, Netflix folk. The more you learn the better you understand it.

I can't guess if your network is firewalled but I'm running into that about half the time. Folk will claim the network is setup but when it comes to firewalls, some don't get it.

double-click on the TV icon to get it to respond

You have to double-click on the TV icon to get it to respond. It then offers you a four digit pin entry field. Get the pin off the TV set and enter it. Weird that you have to double-click but that is the case.

That's it!

Thanks so much -- there's nothing in that UI that suggests double-clicking is required, but I guess I should have randomly tried it anyway Happy
