Question

SmartHub TV ARC sound went away

by JohnDlugosz / July 15, 2014 6:33 AM PDT

I have a ES8000 TV, attached to a AVR with a HDMI cable.

First note that it was working earlier.
Second, when I go into Troubleshooting and do sound test, keeping "External Speaker", I hear the sound coming from the home-theater speakers. Furthermore, the dialog box that appears immediately after has a Yes/No choice, and I hear the "bloop" sound when I move the cursor between those two buttons. I see the AVR indicating a signal.

In all other cases, the sound is not working. I don't hear the "bloop" when I navigate the menu. No SmartHub apps produce sound.

It's not the cable or the AVR settings, as seen from the successful test. It's like the TV just decided not to send sound anymore, except when under the Sound Test menu.

It took me a minute to figure out what you were saying. Service calls to TV owners?

Do you mean that toslink is better/more reliable for the "apps"?
But it needs to use ARC for synchronizing the sound to the video.

Why did it work yesterday?

Your choice.

ARC has been unreliable for anyone I know to guarantee it will work or can be fixed. That being said and I shared how I work around it most of the time, you have choices to make. Why not make this a warranty issue? That is, if the maker can't fix it, then ask for refund and try some other model?
