All the models I've seen that did this used USB HDDs that were encrypted and no one ever found a way for the content to play on anything but the TV it was recorded on. Also, many of the TVs forbid, denied recording from HDMI sources.

As such this is a pretty much dead technology. Most folk, once they reveal what they want to achieve end up on DVRs.

Smart TV export to USB / DVR

Once you've recorded onto a DVR is it then possible to download the recorded file to a DVD?

Not typically

Such content is often encrypted/protected. Not like some of the older motorola boxes via comcast with the firewire output ‘loophole’ to export as MPEG Happy

While you can verify with more research.

If you find a TV that records to USB drives, you also find the content only plays on that TV. The content is in a not-Windows friendly file system, encrypted and more.

If you want to record content, this isn't the way. Google HDMI RECORDING or similar and you enter a world of pain and dollars.

Here in the US I am not aware of that bonus feature on most current HDTVs.

I too bet it's not NA.

But even so many folk are nonplussed about how it does record but is locked, encrypted and won't play on anything but that TV.
