Question

Smart TV wireless connection/ISP Blocking Service Error 202

Aug 2, 2015 1:56AM PDT

I purchased a new UE65JS9000 65" Samsung 4k UHD Smart TV yesterday but cannot get it to connect to the wireless network. I get this message "Connected to your local network, but cannot connect to the Internet. Check the DNS settings in IP settings, or contact your Internet service provider to access the Internet." ...I have done all of these things but none of them have worked... I contacted Sky, who could not see any issues and confirmed that my Internet was 'strong', i.e. 18meg. I checked the settings and they seemed to be correct. To be sure, I also entered them manually by transferring the details from my working laptop. I've tried another device (laptop) in close proximity to the TV and the laptop worked. I tried a self diagnosis of smart hub connection and got this message "Your Internet Service Provider is blocking the following service. Please contact a Samsung Service Centre -ISP Blocking Service Error code:202". Is this a known issue with this model of Smart TV and what is the solution? It is not convenient for me to run a LAN cable from my router to the one connect box so I need wireless to work. I invested £3k in this TV and I'm hoping that it's just teething problems, that will be overshadowed by years of maximum enjoyment. Grateful for your help.

Answer
This one is sadly common.

Fixes are to set the ISP gear to allow such, change the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and in some rarer cases having Samsung service the TV.

Did you contact the Samsung Service Center? They usually have you check firmware and help with the DNS setup.

Problem solved!

Thanks for your advice... I rang Samsung on 03442 411653. The TV had out of date software on it. We connected via an extra long Ethernet cable I bought, changing the DNS setting to 8.8.8.8 and it worked, so downloaded the latest software version. Smart TV up and running! Thank you!
