Question

Smart Lg Tv and Yamaha surround sound not working anymore

May 4, 2017 1:27PM PDT

If someone could help me that'd be amazing since I tried talking to Yamaha but they are completely useless. So I got an LG smart 55uh6150 tv and a Yamaha HTR 6230 sound system, the issue here is before when I'd switch over to the Netflix app on the tv it would switch the sound over too. Now, for some reason it doesn't. It recieved sound from my cable box, but when I turn on the Netflix app it doesn't switch over now. No clue why. I currently use an optical cord (and already checked if it was broken, it is not), so if someone could help that'd be amazing.

Forgot a thing.

How is the audio routed from TV to HTR? Could it have come unplugged?

Optical cord

It's connected through that cable. Like it worked fine for a month. Brand new tv and all, then this morning I go to watch a movie and only my cable box seems to work. Like I mentioned before the cord works fine, I tested in my room since I have a tv and soundbar there, and just randomly crapped out on me today. The Yamaha unit is apparently 10 years old, but I don't think that matters since it worked fine yesterday. I find this very odd. Thanks though for responding so quickly.

Testing.

You'll have to try another source on optical to see if the receiver is OK.
And another optical sound device to see if the TV is sending over optical.

These smart TVs can update or change settings at random so I have to look over every setting.

But when you go to use Netflix, did you change source on the receiver? It's not automatic here.

Automatic

It actually did do it automatically. It was just so convenient. When I wanted to watch Netflix,I'd just change the input on the smart tv and select the app, and the audio would just change without me needing to do anything and would also switch back when I wanted to watch tv. It was a solid set up.

So did you try it manually?

I wonder if some CEC magic was going on. Be sure the CEC port is used to the Receiver and CEC is enabled in the TV.

Answer
My TV did that recently.

Seems the TV would not output HD audio. Anyhow in the Netflix app I had to select stereo and now it plays. I'm not there to tell you how to use Netflix so call Netflix if you can't find this.
