Smallest physical PC I can buy that can run WinXP/7?

Apr 2, 2014 12:42PM PDT

I'm working on a small project and need a computer that can fit inside the following criteria:

- Runs Windows XP or 7
-smaller then 4"x4"x1.5"
-802.11g wireless or greater
-min. 1gb Ram. And 32gb storage, or RAM slots and an mSATA slot.
-under $180USD
-passive cooling
-at least one USB port
-DirectSound Capable audio
-1 GHz or Faster Processor

I know the Intel NUC is a close option, but I'd like to see what else exists. The cheaper the better.

Hmmm,

Those aren't really available on the consumer market. The PC 104 look nice but I can't really find a price online unless I go directly through them.

Anything else?

Sorry but they are.

If you are a developer you can get those things. http://www.pc104.com/ lists about a dozen suppliers.

Remember I no longer use such things because we lost the team member that insisted on SBC designs. Along with that we moved to cheaper solutions.

I know you may not take this as helpful but there are thousands of such boards out there but you have to do the research on them to see if they fit your application and then see if the price is right. In most cases you'll pay more than a desktop in the end. This can royally upset those new to this.

When it must be cheap, tell more.

For example some just want to code it in some familiar IDE like Turbo C++ which we can run on DOS SBCs from say http://www.jkmicro.com/Flashlite186.html

Full up Windows eats 100 bucks of your budget just for the Windows OS!
