Small TV Recommendations

May 31, 2008 6:46AM PDT

I've been looking to buy a small TV for my bedroom, and college dorm room. I'm looking for something around 19-22". I mainly use my TV for my Xbox 360, but I watch a lot of TV and movies too. My budget allows for around $400-500. The TV is use now is a 20-year old tube TV, and we get cable TV (getting HD wouldn't be much of a problem). Does anyone have any specific TV recommendations? Keep in mind my knowledge of TVs is very limited. Thanks.

On this site is a good start. Your money will go farther buying off the Enet or used.

Sure, check C/NET reviews. Their ratings are as

trustworthy as any list I know. Pick from better rated ones. Myself, to make it easy, I'd say get a Panasonic LCD. Their brand is known for both quality & reliability.

Sure there are lots of low priced, off brand sets out there. I'd avoid a gamble on quality, etc, by going Panasonic first, 7 um, I guess Samsung second.

I'm sure many have had fine experience with the hard charging, aggressive on price, Vizio. They had been considered off brand but have come on strong.

But I would definitely stay away from Westinghouse & real no names. They actually often do not have repair available.

Olevia V series
Jun 1, 2008 4:55AM PDT

I got an Olevia 323V for the same exact reasons as you (needed a decent, small-ish tv for my dorm room). It was pretty cheap, and 23" so it was a great size for my small room. I haven't had any major problems with it, and the picture looks great (it's 1080i). Unfortunately, now at home I don't have an HD box (I have cable directly from the outside wire), and this TV doesn't have a built in HD tuner, so if you don't have an HD box you won't have HD. However, if you have something like a blu ray player, or a PS3, you will have HD quality video and everything looks great. The only downside from this TV is that it gets really hot in the back..and also some models (mine included) have a clicking noise that happens while it's on. I probably should have returned it when I first got it, but now it's way too late for that. oh well
