Small, killer speakers needed

Dec 2, 2005 5:30AM PST

I have two rooms that have been prewired for stereo (not surround), with the speaker connections where the wall meets the ceiling. I'm looking for two pairs of speakers that are small enough to not call attention to themselves but that have a full, high-quality sound.

Suggestions?

bose speakers are pretty small...

and I think they sound pretty too but I don't know if it's worth the price they are asking though. The next one would be Altec Lansing speakers (they sound pretty good and the price is bad either.

Killer small speakers? Bose
Dec 4, 2005 2:39PM PST

Bose is pretty much the only way to go with supper small speakers. I have several sets and am constantly amazed at the sound reproduction created from something that has the same size driver as my sony dj headphones. The only downside I can come up with is that sometimes the amount of sound coming out of these tiny bose speakers will frustrate me to the point that I want to crack them open to see how they work. If you can get something a little bigger, you will have to choose for yourself, everything sounds a little different. To some multi thousand dollars sonus faber might sound worse than some basic sony's (might be exagerating a little on that one...but you get the idea)

those are in wall speakers

if inwall speakers are what you are looking for, there are many more non-bose speakers which are much cheaper and will sound better.

Can you please name a few?

Also any good small "on-wall" (as opposed to in-wall) speakers you'd recommend?

Do they have to be new?

I have had a pair of Minimus 7's by Radio shack for almost 30 years, they are great sounding and you can virtually put them anywhere. I recently have experienced a hearing loss and gave them to much juice and fried one I found some available on ebay. I bought a set for $40 plus shipping and you can even do better than that, but I wanted this particular pair because they are real walnut wood as opposed to the black metal, but either sound great. I have always used the hanging slot for wall mount that comes on the speaker or recently we moved and I just put them on the headboard.

For $100 you can have the four speakers you need and I doubt you will ever find a better small speaker.

Great speakers

I have bought a total of 3 pair of those speakers when they were new. Two black pair and a white pair. My son and daughter each confiscated the black ones and I am using the white ones as my rear surround. I have yet to find a better rear speaker than those. Those are full range two-way speakers and if you could come up with 5 of them plus a good sub, you would have a nice compact, good sounding system.
