I meant to write Plasma, not DLP.
I just want to start off by saying what a great website CNET is. The reviews and forums have brought a tremendous amount of help.
Here's my situation. My wife and I are going to be turning an upstairs spare bedroom into our HT because of the awful accoustics of our living room. The bedroom is small (10'x10'x8'). I have all of the equipment except for the TV and stand. My setup includes:
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V1500
Center: Infinity Beta 360
Front L/R: Infinity Primus 360
Surrounds: Infinity Primus 150
Subwoofer: Velodyne SPL1200II
My first question is: Will this be overkill, or with proper adjustments, can I soften it up? I plan to add carpet and thick curtains to the back window. There will be no furniture, just pillows and beanbags (like anyone cares about this). There is a good chance that we may have to convert this back to a bedroom and move the HT back to the dreaded LR, so I don't want to get rid of the equipment.
Next question: Can you give me advice on a 42'' Plasma or LCD flat panel TV under $2500 in black piano. I've done quite a bit of research. The Hitachi 42HDX62 is only $2375 (orig. MSRP $5500) at Magnolia HiFi) and has really grabbed my attention over the LG and Samsung entry level models. The custom calibration is incredible and the colors are so much more life-like. The other option is for the Sony KDL-V40XBR1 or KDL-V40XBR3 (I have a friend who works for Sony and has a great discount). I'm not sure I like the Samsung or LG flat panel LCDs. What do you think?
Please keep in mind that this TV will be used for normal viewing, DVDs and Xbox.
I appreciate your input and advice.
