Small fonts on some web pages

Oct 5, 2006 11:41PM PDT

Suddenly, the fonts on some web pages have gotten tiny. Not all pages, and it seems, not all parts of a page. For instance, the words I'm currently typing in the "Message Body" box appear normal size, but some of the type above, such as Back to: CNET forums | Browsers forum
Browsers forum

appear small and slightly out of focus, while the left-hand column where it lists Forum Information
etc. appear normal. MSN's main page has all small type, buy when I click onto the My MSN page, fonts are normal. It's driving me CRAZY!!

This does not seem to happen in Firefox.

Any ideas?

A new Windows Update?
Oct 6, 2006 1:13AM PDT

I'm wondering if it's from some kind of Windows Update since it sounds like I'm not the only and it came out of nowhere.

I get one from them 3 or so times a week. Some I think are from Windows Defender.

Try This

Rob10, Open Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options and under the General tab click the Accessability button and uncheck everything in that menu, click OK/Apply/OK.

No Dice

Thanks Tufenuf,
They were all unchecked. Seems like it must be some kind of bug in a Windows/Windows Defender Update. Just guessing.

Rob10, If you're using a LCD monitor do you have Clear Type enabled? Try enabling it and see if it helps.

Right-click on a blank area of the Desktop and choose Properties.
Click on the Appearance tab; click effects.
Check the box: Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts.
In the drop down box select: Clear Type.

That helped, but...

Thanks,
That helped readablity and sharpened things up (a bit line an Unsharp Mask effect), but fonts are still small on certain parts of certain pages. Weird!

Rob10, That "Back to: CNET forums | Browsers forum" smaller text is normal on this page. Open Internet Explorer>View>Text Size and change it to the next larger size.

Ding, Ding, Ding!

Tcock!!! (the sound of me hitting myself on the head) That was it. Text size had mysteriously changed itself to smallest. Don't know why I didn't think to look there, but I didn't figure it would change itself. Thanks TufEnuf! Happy

To increase the font size?
Oct 17, 2006 4:19PM PDT

On a PC. Hold down the control key and hit the (+) key to enlarge the text. Control key and the minus key (-) will reduce the text size.
On a Mac you substitute the Apple command key.
Images are not effected. Only text.
Pretty simple.

Thanks for the tip, but...

the problem has been solved, but thank you anyways. BTW, Cntrl/+ didn't seem to do anything for font size on web pages. Is that a program-specific command?

Nope

I use the Apple/Command key.
Works all the time.
Maybe I screwed up and told you the control key.
Have fun.
