Small boxes and lines every where on display

I have small boxes and lines every where on my computer display. I have run Norton virus scan, and found nothing. I think it may be a hardware problem, but I am not sure. (did have problems booting up, but I could not read anything on the screen.) Has anyone had thins happen, or know what I could try?

First Steps...

...If the problem is a desktop computer is to borrow another monitor and swap it in to see if the problem continues..If the replacement monitor displays correctly then you know it's time to replace it.

If the replacement monitor is also showing the same symptoms, then try reinstalling the video driver.

Finding What You Have

In reply to: First Steps...

Everest Home Edition from Lavalys is an excellent tool to get all the data on your PC. Sorry I do not have the site link, but a GOOGLE search should get you there. Simply download it, install it and run it. From there, a simple cut and paste will give others the system info they need to best help you.

Display problems...

In reply to: Small boxes and lines every where on display

I have small boxes and lines every where on my computer display.

Display ? When ? i.e. At desktop after you have booted up ? While surfing the net ? When reading documents, e.g. MS Office ? Or maybe right after you switch on ?

Please describe the boxes and lines - how small are the boxes ? Same sizes ? Straight lines ? wavy ? Closed together ? spaced evenly ? Boxes and lines mixed or in lines of their own ? Lines and boxes are black in color ? Is the the display steady, i.e. no slight blinking at the corners or anywhere else ?
Background ? etc. Happened suddenly ? After installing a [program or otherwise making changes to the system ? Tried System Restore ? Sorry, but there is a need for something to work on.
