Small black window on start-up of any office 2003 applicatio

Hello.

I bought a laptop in November with a trial version of Office Small Business Edition 2003 pre-loaded. Today I upgraded from the trial to the full product, following the prompts I was given by microsoft.

When I open any of the applications (Excel / Word / etc) another window also opens, it is smaller and has a completely black view, it appears to serve no purpose. This leaves my tab-view at the bottom of the page more cluttered than it needs to be, and I have to close it manually (which does not affect the app' in any way).

From memory, it has always done this, but I assumed it was due to being a trial version, and I was expecting it to not happen once I'd payed the money for the full product.

I have never encountered this problem on other computers, so it must be possible to stop it happening.

I am running Windows XP Pro, On a Sony SZ2VP/X.

Please help, this is driving me mad!

Jenni,

I think it's best to start with the great spring-cleaning. So run the
run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utilily as described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Then reinstall Office 2003.

It's far from sure to help, but I suppose it won't harm.
